You have an energy label that makes you eligible to apply for funding through the 2025 Energy Renovation Pool. In addition, you can make use of the new craftsman deduction for other projects.

In steps 4 and 5, you’ll also get help with switching your heating source and claiming the service deduction for appliance repairs.

The sooner you get started, the sooner you’ll reduce both your expenses and your climate footprint.

So let’s get started!

Step 1

What do you want to renovate?

When planning energy renovations in your home, it’s important to first identify where the greatest potential for improvement lies. In other words, where you can save the most money and reduce the most CO₂. Fortunately, this often go hand in hand!

Here are two ways to identify the biggest improvement opportunities in your home.

Choose the one that makes the most sense for you:

Use your energy label

A good place to start is by looking at the recommendations in your current energy label. An energy label is valid for 10 years.

In the report, you’ll find:
– Recommendations for energy improvements
– Estimates of investment costs
– Annual savings in DKK and reduced CO₂ emissions

You can find your energy label here.

Once you’ve decided which renovations to carry out, you can contact a local contractor for an estimate on the job.

New energy label

If your current energy label is close to expiring, you can choose to get a new one. It typically costs between DKK 4,000 and 10,000. The energy label must be issued by a certified energy company, which you can find using SparEnergi’s search tool.

Do your own energy check

You can also choose to carry out your own inspection of your home to identify where it might be smart to make energy renovations.

Morten shares tips on how to do just that in the ProjectZero House.

Once you’ve decided what energy renovations you’d like to carry out, simply contact your local contractor to get a quote for the work.

Step 2

Apply for funding

Your energy label qualifies you to apply for funding from the Energy Renovation Pool (Energirenoveringspuljen).

It’s important that you do not start the renovation work before your application has been approved – otherwise, you won’t be eligible for funding.

The pool opened on February 19, 2025, and for the first time, you now have a full year to complete your project after it has been approved.

Once the work is finished, you must submit final documentation. If everything is in order, the funding will be paid out.

You can apply for funding here.

What can I get subsidies for?

You can find an overview of which renovations are eligible for funding here.

Please note that funding is not available for basement exterior walls and cavity wall insulation. For these types of renovations, you can instead use the new craftsman deduction.

How much funding can I receive?

The amount of funding you can receive is calculated by multiplying the subsidy rate by the number of square meters included in your project.

You must not have received funding for the same project before, and the minimum amount you can apply for is DKK 5,000. There is no upper limit to the funding amount.

You can find the subsidy rates here.

Step 3

Use the Craftsman Deduction

The new green craftsman deduction (Håndværkerfradrag) runs from 2025 to 2027.

You can get a deduction of DKK 8,600 per person in the household. If two people live together, you can receive a total deduction of DKK 17,200.

It is not possible to use the craftsman deduction for the same project for which you are also applying for funding.

See how to apply for the deduction below:

What expenses qualify for a craftsman deduction?

The new craftsman deduction focus on climate and environmental improvements.

This means you can get a deduction for things like window replacement, insulation, climate-proofing, and installation of solar panels.

You can only get a deduction for the labor costs – not for materials.

See all eligible deductions here.

Be aware of...

The work must be paid for digitally – via MobilePay, debit card, or online banking. Cash payments are not eligible for deductions.

Remember to keep the invoices as documentation, and ask the contractor to separate the invoice into materials and labor (excluding VAT).

The work must be carried out by a VAT-registered company in Denmark.

How to apply for the deduction

To get the craftsman deduction, you need to log into Skat TastSelv, click on your preliminary tax assessment (Forskudsopgørelse), and find the craftsman deduction section.

See how to fill out the form in this video from Skat. The video covers the service deduction, but the process is the same for the craftsman deduction.

Step 4

Switch to a more climate-friendly heating source

If your home is heated with oil or gas, there are energy optimizations and CO₂ savings to be made by switching to a greener heating source.

If you have access to district heating in your area, we recommend this solution. If you live outside a district heating area, you can apply for support for an individual heat pump through the heat pump pool.

Step 5

Repair your household appliances

As a new feature, the service deduction now also covers repairs to large household appliances.

This means you can get a deduction of up to DKK 17,500 for the repair of appliances such as dishwashers and washing machines.

It’s a great opportunity to extend the lifespan of your appliances and promote circularity.

What services qualify for the service deduction?

You can get a deduction for labor costs for services such as cleaning, childcare, and gardening – and now also for the repair of large household appliances.

See what services qualify for the tax deduction on this page.

Be aware of...

The work must be paid for digitally – via MobilePay, debit card, or online banking. Cash payments are not eligible for deductions.

Remember to keep the invoices as documentation for the work.
